On Saturday September 19th, 2009 in Cohoes, NY at The Knights of Columbus, the Hellions gathered to celebrate the end of their first smashing season and birthday! Round tables were beautifully arranged with balloons, pretty colors and decoration. The mood was very festive and glamorous. Ida Feltersnatch and Scarbucks came dressed to impress in full length, black, luxurious gowns. Missy Misdemeanor HellaHit wore a beautiful satin white Marilyn Monroe like dress. Juliette Vendetta sported a sexy, long redhead wig, Miranda Rights wore a full sequined disco ball quality dress, and all the men looked stunning in suits and ties. The most unique outfit goes to Eloda Sarcasm who cleverly wrapped her jacket and slacks in Hellions lime green and pink duct tape! Everyone looked fabulous!!
We missed Kitty Porn and Shockratease that night because they were bouting with The Utica Roller Girls. Beirut Bombshell made a beautiful appearance from Brooklyn, NY in a hot wine dress and black choker. We also missed the presence of Point N Shoot who was bouting with the Long Island Roller Girls.
We enjoyed ourselves with conversation, relaxation, wine, beer, and cocktails. It’s always funny to see Scarbucks drink beer through a straw out of a pitcher. The corn salsa was the hit of the appetizers. A buffet style dinner had yummy selections of meats and vegetarian dishes. I was very impressed with the mash potatoes. For dessert we had cupcakes and a specially decorated Hellions of Troy birthday cake.
Ida and Scarbucks wowed us all with an impressive award presentation. They projected very well thought out images to match the person they were honoring. I’m amazed how they found pictures of a barracuda, something that looked like Cat Guts and other hilarious images. It was like a professional award ceremony! They took turns giving thanks and appreciation to each and every person they awarded. Ida and Scarbucks were very charming, thoughtful and organized. The fresh meat were presented with certificates and prizes, the rostered players were given an awesome and sturdy black metal water bottle with a rad Hellion logo, and volunteers were also appreciated and awarded certificates of “Outstanding Active Participation“. Everyone had their time in the spotlight. Bear Lee Giveashit won a derby gear certificate and Doc Bi’Ohazard won a badass burrito certificate for the raffle prizes.
A huge highlight of the evening was when Detrimental Diva proposed to Missy to be her derby wife. She announced it to everyone and gave her an engagement roller derby wheel. How sweet it was!
Mike Toomey and Zack Zoll captured wonderful still images throughout the entire evening. A reporter from gaesmagazine.com was there to ask the team their thoughts on the season.
After yummy cake and cupcakes we danced the night away. We had a lot to celebrate in 2009. The year was extremely productive, successful and a huge success. For a brand new roller derby team we achieved major goals with professionalism and organization. The 2009/2010 year will be even better and more impressive.
